ron partington - architectural designer

How did I get started in design?

During the eighties I was a sailmaker designing sails for windsurfers and yachts. A move to London in the nineties saw the progression of my design sphere to interior design. Based in Notting Hill, I honed my skill within a bespoke interior design firm on an eclectic range of high-end projects.

How did I leap from interiors to architecture?

Back to Wellington in the nineties, I worked with a lot of good architects in my interior design practice. I ended up sharing offices with a couple of award-winning firms and they got me drawing. Through collaborative projects and word of mouth my practice evolved.

How would I describe my design approach?

Client collaboration is at the centre of the design process, it really is a partnership. The form and the material composition are strongly influenced by the site and the environment.

What am I doing now?

Living the dream on the stunning Tutukaka coast, building my practice locally, and continuing to enjoy working with clients in wonderful Wellington and beyond!
